This statue of Benjamin Franklin by Jacques Jouvenal and J.F. Manning, was unveiled in 1889 in Washington, DC. Standing eight feet high, this marble statue was a gift to Washington, DC from Stilson Hutchins, founder of the Washington Post.
The statue depicts the Founding Father in the diplomatic dress of the American Minister to the court of Louis XVI in France. He holds a document in his left hand and raises his right hand as a greeting. The pedestal is engraved with four characteristics of Franklin's life: PRINTER, PHILANTHROPIST, PATRIOT, and PHILOSOPHER.
