As juvenile crime escalated and became a national concern, the Senate undertook an investigation to determine the cause of this disturbing trend and to identify steps the Government might take to reverse it. This chart was presented to illustrate how much television programming was centered on the themes of crimes and violence. The portions marked in red indicated crime programs. Even with its crime-doesn’t-pay morality message, Dragnet, a favorite program of elementary school children, was thought to have a negative impact on the nation’s youth.
