Drawn by Charles B.J. de Saint-Memin in 1807, Chief of the Little Osages shows the unidentified leader of the Little Osages. The Little Osages, also known as Utsehta, were a band of the Osage that resided not far from the Little Osage River on the west end near St. Louis, Missouri. During the time this portrait was created, French explorers and traders were marrying into the tribe and trade was frequent between the Little Osage and the French.
