Original caption: "Congresswoman from New York - Mrs. Shirley Chisholm was elected November 5 to the U.S. of Representatives from the 12th district of New York. She will be the first Negro woman to serve in Congress. The district is in the Brooklyn Borough of New York City. Mrs. Chisholm, 43, has served as a member of the New York State Legislature."
