During World War II the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) gathered and analyzed intelligence information, ran guerrilla campaigns, and conducted psychological warfare against Germany, Italy, and Japan. The CORNFLAKES project was devised by the OSS’s Morale Operations Branch (MO). It tried to convince Germans to fight against the Nazis by placing counterfeit letters with anti-Nazi messages in the German mail.
