The Daniel Webster Memorial by Gaetano Trentanove was dedicated in 1900 in Washington, DC. A gift from Stilson Hutchins, founder of the Washington Post, the statue depicts the famous statesman and orator and important events in his life. The statue of Daniel Webster is shown wearing a full cape while his right hand holds a book that rests on a pedestal.
Below on the pedestal, two high-relief panels illustrate different events in his career. The famous speech of Webster-Hayne debate in front of a full Senate related to the nullification crisis is depicted on the front side. Inscribed below are the famous words of the conclusion of his speech "Liberty and Union, Now and Forever, One and Inseparable." On the rear of the pedestal, Webster's speech at the Bunker Hill Monument and the phrase "Our country, our whole country and nothing but our country" are displayed.
