This painting print of the "Miracle on Ice" game at the 1980 Winter Olympics resulting in an upset by the mostly amateur United States Men's team over the four-time defending gold medalist Soviet Union is inscribed to President Carter by U.S. Heach Coach Herb Brooks.
Heightened political tension between the two nations following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979 brought increased attention to this contest. After defeating the Soviet Union, the U.S. went on to win the gold medal in the final round against Finland.
