In the late 1960s, opposition to the Vietnam War grew and the nation became more and more divided over America's involvement. In 1965, over 55 percent of Americans polled had approved of government handling of the war. But by 1968, this had flipped. Almost 60 percent believed it had been a mistake to send troops.
