The Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency was established in April 1953 to investigate the causes of what appeared to be an increased amount of criminal activity by teenagers, and to determine what steps the Federal Government might take to combat this trend.
It held hearings on the effect of comic books on young people. In addition to The Fighting American, the subcommittee collected a variety of comic books including Crime Does Not Pay; Web of Mystery; MAD; Strange Fantasy; Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen; Tales from the Crypt; Treasure Chest of Fun and Fact; Young Romance; and others.
