These soldiers were members of a radar and range-finding battery that monitored and destroyed enemy aircraft around the clock. At the time the picture was taken, the men were resting by their pup tents during their 4 hours off duty before resuming their 2-hour duty tour. The sergeant on the far left brought the radio from "the States" to tune in to the Army network and the BBC. By June 12 fighting was still too intense for kitchens to have been set up, so soldiers relied on C-rations and K-rations for nourishment. All five soldiers fought from Normandy to Germany and survived to be demobilized.
