This Congressional resolution, which proposed extending the right to vote to women, became the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
This is the resolution from the House of Representatives showing that Mr. Mann – Woman Suffrage Committee Chairman James R. Mann of Illinois – introduced the Susan B. Anthony Amendment, as it was known. It was referred to the Committee on Woman Suffrage on May 19, and passed in the House on May 21. It soon passed in the Senate on June 4, 1919.
Once three-fourths of states (36 at that time) ratified the amendment, it was added to the Constitution. Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify it on August 18, 1920. Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby certified the ratification on August 26, 1920.
