This cartoon concerns whether William Jennings Bryan would seek the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1920. By March of that year, Bryan had publicly announced that he did not desire the Democratic Presidential nomination. But, as a three-time party nominee who had also sought the nomination two additional times, his announcement was received with skepticism. In this cartoon, a Victrola (an old-fashioned record-player) spreads his message. Bryan was not a candidate for the nomination, and instead the Democrats nominated James M. Cox, Governor of Ohio, who lost the Presidential election to Republican Warren G. Harding.
