Jim Thorpe’s days as an athlete started at Carlisle Indian Industrial School, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, playing football and running track. In 1909, he was photographed in his Carlisle football uniform. At the 1912 Olympics, in Stockholm, Sweden, Thorpe won both the decathlon and the pentathlon. King Gustav V of Sweden called him, “the greatest athlete in the world.”
