J. L. Hughes, U.S. Commissioner of Immigration in Gloucester, New Jersey, sent this letter to Principal Frances L. Bowers of Keyser-Meehan Public School acknowledging his reciept of her report of a Chinese family living in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.

Madam:
This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated September 29, 1921, in which you report a Chinese family residing at 405 W. Queen Lane, Germantown, the children,- a boy 13 and a girl 7, having applied to you for admission, and when, you have been informed, have been residents of the United States for but a few months.
In this connection you are informed that an investigation will be conducted to ascertain whether or not the provisions of the Chinese Exclusion Laws have been violated, and we will advise you of the result of our findings in the matter.
