This is a page from the Mauthausen concentration camp’s totenbuch, or death book. The book lists each prisoner’s name, national or ethnic origin, birthdate, birthplace, and cause and time of death. During World War II, prisoners at Mauthausen were used as forced laborers and subjected to barbaric conditions. Those too sick or weak to work were sent to Mauthausen's gas chamber. Mauthausen is located near Linz, Austria.
