Telephone conversation between President John F. Kennedy and Governor Ross Barnett on James Meredith's entrance into the University of Mississippi. Robert F. Kennedy also participated in the conversation.

James Meredith attempted to register at the all-white University of Mississippi, known as "Ole Miss," in January, 1961. Meredith, an African American, had the support of the federal government, which insisted that Mississippi honor the rights of all its citizens, regardless of race.
