Bill of Sale [squiggly line] presents that I, Philip Pearce
to [squiggly line] of Baltimore County and State
Thomas T.G. Pearce [squiggly line] of Maryland for and in con
[squiggly line] sideration of the sum of Three
hundred Dollars to me in hand, paid by Thomas T. G. Pearce of the County and State aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do bargain sell and deliver unto the said Thomas T.G. Pearce my negro man named Lewis Johnson he being about twenty one years of age and a slave for life. To Have and To Hold the said Lewis Johnson unto the said Thomas T.G. Pearce his Executors administrators and assigns to his and their own proper use benefit and behoof forever. And I, the said Philip Pearce my heirs executor, and administrators the said bargained promises unto the said Thomas T.G. Pearce his Executors administrators and assigns from and against all person and persons whomsoever shall and will warrant are forever d[?]d by the presents. In Witness Thereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this Seventeenth day of May Eighteen hundred and fifty one.

Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this Seventeenth day of May in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty one before me the subscriber one of the parties of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for the said County personally appears Philip Pearce he being known to one to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be the a party to the foregoing Instrument of writing and do acknowledge the said Bill of Sale or Instrument of writing to be his act and deed.
