This is a letter to the U.S. Senate from President Lyndon B. Johnson nominating Thurgood Marshall of New York to the Supreme Court. Marshall was a prominent attorney for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He fought for the rights of African Americans in many court cases. Among his most notable cases is Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, which established that segregated schools were inherently unequal.
