This photograph from the New York Times Paris Bureau Collection shows a storefront after a boycott was announced by the National Socialist Party, or Nazi Party, on April 1, 1933. The sign at the Jewish Tietz department store reads, "Germans, defend yourselves, do not buy from Jews." The official boycott ended at midnight.
