This photograph shows American twin-engine bombers, provided through the Lend-Lease program, being hoisted aboard a ship.
The Lend-Lease Act, passed on March 11, 1941, set up a system that allowed the United States to lend or lease war supplies to any nation deemed "vital to the defense of the United States." The Act met Great Britain’s need for supplies during World War II and allowed the United States to prepare for war while remaining officially neutral.
