This untitled illustration by cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which appeared in the Washington Evening Star on April 10, 1907, shows Uncle Sam offering a baseball bat called "National Big Stick" to a Washington Nationals baseball player. This is a direct reference to President Theodore Roosevelt's diplomacy policy.
Roosevelt had recently offered the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, an example of his big stick approach, in 1904; he was also continuing work in the Panama Canal in 1906. Teddy bear assures him that, "it's a victory getter, all right!"
This primary source comes from the Records of the U.S. Senate.
