The Union Navy Memorial was erected in Vicksburg, MS in 1917.
A 202 foot shaft, 20' x 20' granite obelisk modeled after the Washington Monument honors the role played by the U.S. Navy in the siege at Vicksburg. The tallest monument in the battlefield, its base is surrounded by four bronze statues of the fleet commanders. The statue of Admiral Farragut was done by Henry H. Kitson, while Flag Officer Foote was designed by William Couper. F. Edwin Elwell completed Flag Officer Davis' statue, Lorado Taft sculpted Commander David Dixon Porter.
