The original title reads: Early morning view of the Missouri River from the Abbey of Benedictine College at Atchison, Kansas. The Abbey is built on a High Bluff and looks over the plain on the Missouri side of the river. The area was described by Lewis and Clark as having much tall grass and an abundance of game.
This photograph was taken as part of the Documerica project – a social and environmental photography project sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency during the 1970s.
