News reports from Europe indicated that Leon Trotsky, minister of war and marine in the fledgling Russian revolutionary government, had ordered the arrest of Lenin, the Bolshevik premier due to differences between the two men about the pace of Bolshevik reforms. Cartoonist Clifford Berryman shows a wounded and limping Russian bear on crutches reading a news bulletin about the arrest, he wonders who will boss him around next? Since the start of the Russian Revolution in 1917 Russia had suffered through various leaders and bickering between the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks factions. All the while the Russian people continued to suffer greatly from the lack of food and a disintegrating political system.
