The original caption for this photograph reads: “Chief Young Man Afraid of His Horses and his Tepee taken at Pine Ridge Agency S.D. Jan 17th 1891.” A note at the bottom says: “Somewhat older than when he gained his name. L.D.G.”
A duplicate of this photograph in the Records of the Office of the Chief Signal Officer describes it as: “Young-Man-Afraid-of-His-Horses (Tashun-Kakokipa), an Oglala Sioux; standing in front of his lodge, Pine Ridge, South Dakota”
