This FBI-created news release shows the FBI’s Hoover building and describes the mission of the agency. It shows old footage of 1930’s gangsters George “Machine Gun” Kelly, “Babyface” Nelson, “Pretty Boy” Floyd, and John Dillinger to illustrate how aggressive the FBI was at solving crimes under Director Hoover. It discusses the expansion of the agency after WWII to include investigations of espionage, sabotage, loan sharks, interstate gambling, the 1950’s Brinks Robbery, and KKK violence. It indicates that the aggressive nature of agency did not change with the death of J. Edgar Hoover in 1972. You can also watch this video in our main National Archives online catalog.
