Between 1903 and 1927, the War Department created compiled service records to minimize handling and wear of the original records. A single form contains information taken from muster rolls, returns, pay vouchers, and other records. This record, for John M. Beck, gives his rank, unit, the date he mustered in, basic biographical information, and information about his military unit.
This primary source comes from the War Department Collection of Confederate Records.
