Born in Texas in 1912, Claudia Alta Taylor, known from an early age as Lady Bird was three years old when this portrait was made. Lady Bird married Lyndon Baines Johnson in 1934. She received awards for her service to many organizations and causes, including the Medal of Freedom, this country’s highest civilian award. An avid environmentalist, she founded the National Wildflower Research Center.
