This photograph shows the aftermath of a deadly explosion at the T.A Gillespie Company Shell Loading Plant, that produced munitions for World War I.
The original caption reads: Terrific explosion at T.A. Gillespie Co. Plant, Morgan's Landing, New Jersey. Homeless being care for at the Perthy Amboy, New Jersey High School. Soldiers, sailors and the Women's Mortar Corps did much good work in helping to take the injured to hospitals, and getting the people out of danger. This view shows refugees being fed by Red Cross workers.
