George Nolf served for over 18 months in the Northampton County Militia, protecting settlers between the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers from attacking Native Americans. Nolf began service as a sergeant and rose to command a company as a captain.
His wife, Susanna, submitted this illustrated family record (Fraktur) in German, recording the birth of their daughter Susan on June 21, 1777, in support of her claim for a widow’s pension. She received $300.44 a year. This Fraktur is the work of Frederich Krebs and is illustrated with three common elements: the Carolina Parakeet, a crown, and sunflowers.
