During the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962, the United States and the Soviet Union stood on the brink of nuclear war. While insisting that the Soviet Union remove its missiles from Cuba, President John F. Kennedy worked feverishly to avert war. These notes were scribbled by the President during a Security Council meeting on October 25. They include the words: missile, provocative, diplomatic, Soviet ship, and camouflage.
