Taken on the eve of the 20th century, this full-length portrait shows a Cheyenne holding a peace pipe. This photograph is part of a series collected by the Smithsonian Institution’s Bureau of American Ethnology, consisting of portraits of individual Native Americans and delegations that traveled to Washington DC.
