David Turner, publisher and proprietor of the Virginia State Journal in Alexandria, deposes that notices have been published in his paper between February 24, 1864, and March 12, 1864, pursuant to the case of U.S. v. All the Rights, Titles, of Robert E. Lee. The notices generally decribe the property and proclaim the trial date "when and where all persons are warned to appear to show cause why condemnation should not be decreed and to intervene for their interests."

David Turner of the City and County of Alexandria, being duly sworn deposes and says that he is [struck through] the publisher and proprietor of District Court of the United States of the Virginia State Journal, a Daily newspaper in the City of Alexandria, and at a notice, of which the annexed is a true and correct copy, was published in said newspaper [handwritten] 14 [typeset] days prior to the [handwritten] 4th [typeset] day of [handwritten] April [printed] 1864, the first insertion being on the [handwritten] 24 [typeset] day of October 1865, and the last of the [handwritten] 12th day of March [struck through] 186 [struck through] [handwritten] 4

District Court of the United States for the Eastern District of Virginia To Robert E. Lee, and to all whom it may concern, GREETING: NOTICE is hereby given, that on the 29th day of August 1863, all the rights, titles, interests, and estate of Robert E. Lee and all that certain piece, parcel, or lot of land, with the house and buildings thereon, situated, lying, and being in Alexandria County in the Eastern District of Virginia, known as the Arlington House estate, formerly owned by George Washington Parke Custis, and lately occupied by the said Robert E. Lee consisting of eleven hundred acres more or less. Together with all the goods, chattels, and other personal property of the said Robert E. Lee in and upon the premises. Was seized by the Marshal of the United States for said District as forfeited to the use of the United States, and the same is libeled and prosecuted in this Court in the name of the United States for Condemnation for the said causes in the said libel set forth, and that said case will stand for trial at the Court-room in the City of Alexandria, on the First Monday of April next, when and where all persons are warned to appear to show cause why Condemnation should not be decreed, and to intervene for their interests.
