Judge Horton's opinion, along with a timeline of the case and an appeal for donations, was reprinted by the Scottsboro Defense Committee as the Scottsboro trial began again following two Supreme Court decisions that reversed their convictions for inadequate counsel and lack of African-Americans in jury pool. At considerable risk to his professional career, Judge Horton, believing that Price was lying about the rape, announced on June 22 that he was setting aside the verdict and ordering a new trial for Haywood Patterson.
