The original caption of this photograph reads: The first American transport plane to land on a recently captured Okinawa airfield, Rykyus, brought mail, and supplies, and Ensign Jane "Candy" Kendeigh, Navy Flight Nurse, to the Marines and Soldiers. On the return trip, the plane evacuated wounded men from the island.
