The World War I Memorial by the firm of Emil Diebitch, Inc (architectural firm) and Frederick A. MacMonnies (sculptor) was erected in Atlantic City, NJ in 1922.
This circular temple is 124 feet in diameter and surrounded by 16 Doric columns. Engraved on the exterior are the names of World War I battles that Atlantic City residents took part in, such as Ypress-Lys, St. Mihiel, Vittorio Veneto, Aisne, Montdidier-Noyon. In the interior, is a nine foot tall allegorical bronze statue titled "Liberty in Distress" depicting a classical female nude figure surrounded by casualties of war.
